‘Shanti Bhawan’ is an architecturally superior heritage haveli, amidst the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It was established by Muhta Sumerchand Ji in the year 1933, son of the Divan of Jodhpur state of ancient times. He himself served as the Excise and Salt commissioner of Jodhpur state. Formerly, the magnificent haveli consisting of 80 rooms, was the summer house for Muhta Sumerchand Ji and his family. He also used to address the people who ringed in hours of dire straits, at the haveli itself. Shanti Bhawan is named after Muhta Sumerchand Ji’s younger son Shanti Chand Ji. In early 1950s, Shanti Chand Ji took the plunge to fabricate the haveli into a wondrous hotel. Shanti Bhawan is currently looked after by Shanti Chandji and his family. His Younger son Pawan Mehta plays a pivotal role in not only maintaining the glory of this prodigious hotel, but also stands tall in sustaining the legacy so profusely.
