About Agra Tourism

Agra is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, some 210 kilometers south of the national capital New Delhi, on the banks of the Yamuna river. Agra is the fourth most populous city in Uttar Pradesh and the twenty-third most populous city in India, with a population of around 1.6 million people.Agra's historical significance began during Sikandar Lodi's reign, but the Mughals were the city's golden age. Under Mughal rulers Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan, Agra was the first metropolis of the subcontinent and the capital of the Mughal Empire.Three distinct derivations are used to explain the name Agra, all of which have low verifiability. The most widely recognized theory is that it derives from the Hindi word agar, which means salt-pan, a name given to it because the soil in the area is brackish and salt was originally produced here by evaporation.
