About Mysore Tourism

From 1399 to 1947, Mysore (or Mysuru), a city in India's southwestern Karnataka state, served as the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore. The sumptuous Mysore Palace, seat of the previous governing Wodeyar dynasty, is located in the heart of the city. The palace incorporates Hindu, Islamic, Gothic, and Rajput design elements. The centuries-old Devaraja Market in Mysore is also home to spices, silk, and sandalwood.Mysore is an anglicized version of Mahishru, which in Kannada means Mahisha's residence. In Sanskrit, the common noun Mahisha means buffalo; however, in this context, Mahisha refers to Mahishasura, a fabled demon who could take human and buffalo forms and who, according to Hindu legend, governed the ancient regions of the Mysore Kingdom.

Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace is easily one of the most imposing architectural buildings in the country.
