Aga Khan Palace

An important part of Pune tourism, the mighty monument is also regarded as a sparkling jewel in Indian history that was closely linked to the Indian freedom movement as it served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his wife, his secretary, and Sarojini Naidu. In this palace, Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai, the secretary, died.The palace was declared a monument of national importance in 2003 by the Archaeological Survey of India. The brilliant mind behind the birth of this majestic monument, Aga Khan, gave the palace to the Indian people in 1969 as a mark of respect for Gandhi and his philosophy, and now the palace holds the vast collection of memories and it is a memorial on Gandhi where his ashes were kept.

Lal Mahal

One of the famous tourist places in Pune, which has a different name as the Red Palace, is Lal Mahal. It is a beautiful monument set up for his wife and son in 1630 AD by Shivaji Maharaj's father, Shahaji Bhosale. Shivaji Maharaj lived here for a long time, until his first fort was captured.Pune Municipal Corporation was the one who reconstructed the present Lal Mahal and the building was started in 1984 and finished in 1988. After an encounter between Shivaji and Shaista Khan, the Lal Mahal became an important part of history when the former cut off the fingers of the latter and tried to escape from the Lal Mahal window.The new palace exhibits a series of large oil paintings focused on the significant events that took place in Shivaji's life. The Jijamata Garden is now known as a children's recreational park.
